I think that one page normally is not enough to describe years of experience in the marvelous and challenging world of IT, this is the main reason for having this page with a very detailed description about my professional experience of fifteen years as a Database Engineer and Software Engineer.

Here I am presenting a detailed view of my last jobs which includes my functions, technologies, and a brief summary of my role there as well as official certifications.

Work Experience

Database Engineer – The Workshop (September 2016-Now)

Worked in a range of projects which involves the optimization of queries and improvement of Database design of Relational and NoSQL technologies as well as the development of new DataWarehouse and ETL pipelines process. Migration of Database platform (MS SQL Server) toward last versions, including the design and support for outcoming a new hybrid Database architecture (on-premises and Cloud). Developed a standard ILM (archive and purge) standard solution based on Python and MySQL code for applying the data retention policies.

Functions

  • Develop complex business processes using MS SQL Server and MySQL components like Stored Procedures, Views, Functions, etc.
  • Develop new Cassandra DB and support developers in the adoption of best practices.
  • Review and analyze execution plans related to specific development and advice the best strategy to optimize the performance inside T-SQL solutions.
  • Mentoring team members in the implementation of best practices and the use of new tools and features related to our stack of technologies.
  • I have worked on Business Intelligence projects with Microsoft Suite (SSIS and SSRS), including the migration of 2008 solutions to 2016/2019.
  • Support in tasks related to architecture and design of new Databases, DW, and processing massive workload.
  • Develop new projects using Python for automation of process as ILM (purge and archive) and any improvements related to Database Automation.

Software Engineer – Frontiers (April 2015-August 2016)

Worked as a member of the Impact Team, contributing to the design, develop and implementation of Databases for processing and storing statistics related to views/download associated with publications and citations of authors published by Frontiers, the process had operations as crawling, cleaning, validation and curation of data and querying in an optimized way a group of big Databases.

Functions

  • I was part of the Impact Team, which was in charge of getting and processing a wide range of statistics related to publications, articles, and citations.
  • As a member of this team, I was focus in optimize the capture and cleaning process of our data before to store in multiples databases.
  • Implementing a new Unit Testing framework that allows us to have a warranty of having validated data before to persists or moves through the pipeline.
  • Supporting take of decisions about new Database Servers and spike good technology to incorporate as part of the team’s stack.

IT Consultant – Citibank (May 2011 – March 2015)

Worked as a member of the Impact Team, contributing to the design, develop and implementation of Databases for processing and storing statistics related to views/download associated with publications and citations of authors published by Frontiers, the process had operations as crawling, cleaning, validation and curation of data and querying in an optimized way a group of big Databases.

Worked in a group of projects related to improvement to the Core banking system (COBIS) in the Central America area, including new features and platforms for collecting public services payments.

Functions

  • Developed a group of projects related to the Core banking system (COBIS) in the central American area, including working through different countries, and integrating new features focuses to improve the service and portfolio.
  • Develop and implement best practices for evaluating the impact of new T-SQL code and how to optimize them.
  • Completing and reviewing deploy instructions and processes to follow in every new scheduled deployment.
  • Coding and testing code that should be integrated as part of the Core system.

Software Developer – Banco de Finanzas (August 2008 – April 2011)

  • Documenting all the requests and propose solutions according to software standards and compliance banking framework.

Speaker Events

I really love to be a speaker, during the last 5 years I have participated in different events from local initiatives to international events as SQLBits.

Nowadays, I am a regular speaker on database technologies and unit testing on DB technologies. I have a strong compromise with the Dev community in Malaga, Spain and it impulses me to give them quality content as part of PASS Malaga chapter.
